CoPA Information Web Site
This web site was established in order to provide an overview
of the commercial Pattern Archive (CoPA) project. CoPA is an international
consortium of clothing pattern collections dedicated to preserving dressmaker patterns for
garments and accessories dating from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.
The CoPA Archive was established with three
goals in mind:
| Collect and preserve patterns used to make clothing and accessories in the home |
| Encourage preservation of paper patterns and related materials for future generations |
| Provide an interactive digital catalog of paper pattern collections for easy reference
for all who are interested in costume design and social history. |
|
The current digital version of the Archive contains over
25,000 detailed records from nine different collections in a searchable database.
Each record offers a detailed textual description of the pattern and its accessories.
In addition, many records include a scanned image of the garment and its pattern
layout.
